Woman%27nFieldI wanted to let you know about a FREE upcoming art/film show this Friday, October 2nd at Wonderroot (www.wonderroot.org). Its a exhibition which includes 20 b&w fiber prints and a 16mm film called Mothers of a Nation produced by Clear Films. The exhibition is about a group of Ugandan women living with HIV who, despite the suffering and isolation that comes with having the disease have united to empower themselves through sustainable farming methods. My cousin, Ansley, shot the movie and stills this winter and spring while she worked on a sustainable agriculture project with the group of women in Jinja, Uganda.

The film and exhibition relays an important message not only to people suffering with HIV, but to everyone around the world. Sustainable agriculture, organic food and information about the importance of nutrition are not often topic of conversation in under served communities, including those of Atlanta.

They have partnered with two non-profits, one of which is an Atlanta based organization called The Ugandan American Partnership Organization (www.theuapo.org) and Development in Gardening (www.developmentingardening. org). Wonderroot is an important place for the exhibition to be held because of its mission to unite artists and community to inspire positive social change.

Click here for a sneak peak of a trailer of the film and more info on the FREE Friday night show.  Great date night cultural activity to add to your social calendar.  Hope to see you there!

ConcertArenaFF08(2)Do you like music? You bet you do if the price is right.  $29 gets you a terrace seat at Chastain Park Amphitheater (normally $48), located off Roswell Road in Buckhead. Rustle up friends and head to the classic outdoor venue.  You must purchase these tickets TODAY to take advantage of the savings.

Buy tickets for WAR and Average White Band, Wednesday, July 22 at 8 p.m.

Buy tickets for The Temptations and Ashford & Simpson, Friday, August 14 at 8 p.m.

Buy tickets for America and Christopher Cross, Wednesday, August 19 at 7 p.m.

The concert feeling is about experiencing thousands of people enjoying music together, feeling the excitement of the beginning of a song like “Low Rider” or the soulfully sweet “My Girl,” a sweetness magnified a thousand times as it resonates through each fan’s heart, echoes off the 100-year-old trees, and back into everyone’s hearts, creating an echo chamber of sweet excitement for the fans and indescribable euphoria for the 100-year-old trees.

    Here are your concert choices:

Flashback to the ’80s with the Regeneration Tour 2009. The show features bands (Terri Nunn & Berlin, Cutting Crew, Wang Chung, and more) who bestowed timeless, distinctly ’80s hits such as “Take My Breath Away,” “I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight,” and “Everybody Have Fun Tonight (Everybody Wang Chung Tonight)” on the world’s ears. Wednesday, July 15 at 7 p.m. Buy tickets.

Feel the ’70s funk when WAR & Average White Band roar into town. Both bands have diverse, yet highly funky R&B sounds. And when WAR performs “Why Can’t We Be Friends” live, you can shout back, “Because you haven’t played ‘Low Rider’ yet.” Once they play “Low Rider,” you can invite them to your birthday party. Wednesday, July 22 at 8 p.m. Buy tickets.

Sing along to the smooth hits of two Motown hits in one night and see The Temptations and Ashford & Simpson. If your papa, like theirs, was a rollin’ stone, you may be moved to tears. It’ll be like strolling down the streets of ’50s Detroit-except you’ll have a cell phone. Friday, August 14 at 8 p.m. Buy tickets.

Remember the ’60s like they were meant to be remembered-with folk-rock legends playing legendary folk rock music. Check out America with Christopher Cross. If you and your honey don a two-person horse costume during America’s legendary “Horse With No Name,” we bet the band will notice you. Wednesday, August 19 at 7 p.m. Buy tickets.

Sit back and relax at what reviewers call “the perfect venue for outdoor entertainment”. And if you can’t choose just one show, you’re in luck: there’s no per-customer limit on this Groupon. Go to any or all of the concerts and bring along as many friends as you like.

I found the above above bargain offered from the Groupon coupon website the tickets are limited so  you have to buy today to save!

    coca cola fox film fest

Does it get more Atlanta than the Fox Theater and Coca-Cola?!  Well these 2 local icons have teamed up again to bring us The Summer Fox Film Festival.  Running 8 films between July 9th and 25th, this unique event is a “MUST DO,” and at the bargain rate of $8 a ticket!!  Which is a small price to pay to enjoy the dramatic decor and old-timey feel.  BUT, we Bargaining Betties don’t just want to bring you good deals, we provide GREAT deals, so follow this link for a BOGO ticket from Dave FM.  And don’t miss the fun pre-show and wine tasting!

In an interesting twist of Recessionista fate, the Fox itself has a history of economic struggles, starting at its Grand Opening!  The original the Yaarab Temple Shrine Mosque opened to the public just as the Great Depression began. After 125 weeks of talking pictures and elaborate stage entertainment, it declared bankruptcy!  Since then, a turbulent history of city ownership, private management and NPOs have kept this legend alive.  Its now up to us!  So grab your friends and family for a one-of-a-kind Atlanta summer bargain!
